The separation anxiety afflicting a parent when it’s time to drop their toddler off at day care for the first time is real and heart wrenching. Especially considering that your toddler has left the cuddly infant stage and now has a definite set of opinions. First opinion being he doesn’t want to go to day care, no how, no way.

Your brain tells you that all will be well once he settles in. In a few weeks, the routine will be set and he will look forward to seeing his new friends. Until that day comes, here are four tips to ease your pain a little on that dreaded first day.

Tip #1: Pack the diaper bag the night before.

You’re going to spend their first day of school wondering if you remembered to send their favorite blankie, or their favorite teether, or the stuffed animal they just can’t take a nap without. Save yourself some stress that first day, make a list of everything your child has to have for daycare, then pack the diaper bag the night before.

Tip #2: Carefully interview the teacher and administrator at the day care center prior to enrolling your child.

There may not be many daycare centers near you, but you have heard good things about the one that is nearest so you go ahead enroll your child in that one feeling good about it. You don’t feel the need to waste time on interviewing the center’s personnel.

It is a big mistake not to interview the teachers and administrative staff of the day care center to which you are entrusting your child. You need to know if the center’s standards match your own and to know at least a little bit about the teachers and staff of the center. You can do this by spending the time to carefully interview the staff members who will be responsible for your child.

Tip #3: If you’re enrolling your child in an institution, choose one that has a consistent reputation for success

Fast forward a few years. We moved into the city shortly after our youngest was born. The plethora of daycare options was mind boggling. When we started looking around, however, we discovered that only a small handful had a reputation for being consistently excellent. The majority of them were hit or miss.

Tip #4: Spend quality time together the night before the first day care stay and the night after.

It is quite probable that your toddler’s first day of daycare coincides with your first day back to work. Both of you will be wiped out at the end of the day. Both of you will have undergone some stressful situations. Recognize this and devote some real quality time to each other. You don’t need to wash a load of clothes or clean the refrigerator. You do need to order a pizza and enjoy each other. The two of you have earned it.

Having a baby, as every parent knows, is a costly business. Especially if it is your first and you have to purchase everything new. However, numerous parents find that it is not the obvious items like nappies, bottles, rompers, pram, cot and clothing, which push the costs up, although they are not cheap either, but that it is the less obvious necessities that surprise them.

If it is too large, it will rumple up and there is a danger that the baby will sleep against restricting it’s breathing and if it is too small, the baby can slip into the gap with the same effect. The difficulty is though that although you would like to purchase baby bedding at a discount, you do not want to buy poor quality baby bedding. Sometimes, you may find that a theme can be a cheap method of acquiring baby bedding at a discount. For instance, if you purchase the sheets, the blanket and the pillow cases in one package it may be cheaper than buying all the items individually.

The Internet is the easiest place to find discount baby bedding. There is no particular season which is best for looking for discount baby bedding, but just after Christmas is as good as any. Christmas and the New Year is when a lot of merchants want to sell off the stock that they had over-bought for sale prior to Christmas. They also need to make room for new styles that come out in the Spring.

Merchants tend to over-charge for baby items because they know that parents have to have the objects and will not want to appear to be scrimping on their baby. If you buy new, work out first what size blankets and sheets you will require in order to get the most for your cot and push chair. For example, from a queen-bed size blanket, you may get two for the cot and one for the push-chair with some left over, but for a few dollars more, you may get an extra set of each from king-size bedding.

All you need to do is cut them to size and add piping, frills or some other edging material and you have perfect, made-to-measure, totally unique baby bedding at a discount.
